Filter solutions for HVAC systems

Optimized Indoor Air Quality protects people and machinery

Heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems are not always visible and usually unnoticed.  Yet they have an important role in virtually all buildings. Whether in hospitals, commercial and office buildings, universities, data centers, restaurants, hotels or museums - the aim everywhere is to improve indoor air quality and maintain it at a high level. The consequences are even more serious if these systems are not properly maintained. One example is "sick building syndrome," which is a real disease according to the U.S. National Library of Medicine National Institutes of Health. The term describes a situation in which residents of a building exhibit symptoms of illnesses that appear to be associated with spending too much time in a building - but no specific causes can be identified. This disease can be prevented in part by proper maintenance of ventilation systems.

Viledon`s multi-stage air filtration system for better indoor air quality

To ensure the proper protection of people’s health, air filters in HVAC systems need to function at much higher levels of efficiency. Compliance with relevant standards and guidelines is of particular importance in this respect. The filters used must ensure that the level of dust, bacteria, fungi and biological constituents circulating in rooms does not exceed that of the air outside the building.

To achieve the required indoor air quality, we combine air filters of different classes and designs into multi-stage systems. Usually a two-stage prefiltration consisting of Viledon pleated filters and cassette filters removes coarse to fine particles. Viledon EPA, HEPA and ULPA filters are used as a final filter stage. They are responsible for reliably arresting finest particles and germs.

Cutting energy costs thanks to Viledon filters

Energy costs are rising and, in parallel, operators want to reduce CO₂ emissions. That is why they are looking for air filters combining high filtration efficiency and a low resistance to airflow. Reducing pressure drop in air filtration systems is key. After all, the fans in HVAC systems consume around 10 % of a building's total energy consumption. Of that, up to 50% can be attributed to pressure drop in the filters. Viledon filters are characterized by a low initial pressure drop. Due to high dust capacity, in most instances the average pressure drop over the lifetime of the filter remains low, yielding extended service life and reduced total cost of ownership.
