Two sites receive energy management certification

The German Freudenberg Filtration Technologies locations in Weinheim and Kaiserslautern have achieved DIN EN ISO 50001 certification.

Freudenberg Filtration Technologies' German locations in Weinheim and Kaiserslautern have successfully achieved certification under DIN EN ISO 50001, an internationally recognized standard for energy management systems (EnMS). This milestone reflects the company’s commitment to improving energy efficiency, reducing carbon emissions, and promoting sustainable business practices.

What is ISO 50001?

ISO 50001 is a globally recognized standard designed to help organizations improve their energy performance. It provides a framework for systematically optimizing energy efficiency, reducing energy consumption, and cutting both operational costs and CO₂ emissions. By implementing this standard, companies can enhance sustainability while meeting regulatory requirements such as Germany’s Energy Efficiency Act (EnEfG).

Why is certification important?

Achieving ISO 50001 certification demonstrates the filtration specialist’s dedication to responsible energy management and environmental sustainability. The certification ensures compliance with legal standards while also offering several key benefits:

  • Enhanced energy efficiency through optimized processes and resource utilization.
  • Cost savings by identifying and implementing energy-saving measures.
  • Reduced environmental impact through lower energy consumption and CO₂ emissions.
  • Greater transparency in monitoring and managing energy usage.
Receiving ISO 50001 certification demonstrates the filtration specialist’s dedication to responsible energy management and environmental sustainability.

Efficiency projects driving change

As part of its energy optimization initiatives, Freudenberg Filtration Technologies has implemented several innovative projects to reduce energy consumption:

  • Smart heating solutions in Weinheim: The facility replaced traditional ceiling heating with infrared panels that selectively heat only occupied areas rather than the entire warehouse. This change saves over 150,000 kWh of electricity annually, equivalent to the energy consumption of ten single-family homes.
  • Optimized heating management in Kaiserslautern: Through improved heating system controls and the installation of air curtains to prevent heat loss, the site has cut its annual heating energy demand by 170,000 kWh—a reduction of approximately 30%.

Sven Köbrich, Energy Management Officer in Kaiserslautern, highlights the importance of these efforts: “Expanding our Efficio energy management software and updating the meter infrastructure have been crucial in identifying and realizing energy-saving opportunities. These steps significantly enhance the sustainability of our production processes.”

Certification as a basis for a sustainable future

This certification marks a significant step in Freudenberg Filtration Technologies’ ongoing sustainability journey. Stefan Vetter, Energy Management Officer in Weinheim, emphasizes: “ISO 50001 certification not only helps us optimize energy use but also demonstrates our commitment to environmental responsibility and resource conservation. This is an investment in a greener future.”

By continuously improving its energy management systems, Freudenberg Filtration Technologies reaffirms its dedication to operating sustainably and efficiently, ensuring long-term benefits for both the environment and the business.
