The Freudenberg Group sees its social responsibility as an integral part of its corporate citizenship. The Group's "Responsibility" Guiding Principle states: "Our company and its family shareholders together are committed to protecting the environment and being responsible corporate citizens in all countries and communities in which we do business ..."
Freudenberg's commitment to social responsibility is practiced both inside and outside the company. There are numerous assistance and support programs for associates. Just over a decade ago, on the occasion of the company's 150th anniversary, the TANNER youth exchange program for the children and grandchildren of employees was launched.
Many Freudenberg Group companies, sites and associates engage in local projects and initiatives providing concrete aid in the spirit of responsible corporate citizenship. Projects offering concrete support that are particularly worthy of note include the construction of a training center in one of the regions in India most severely affected by the tsunami in 2004 and the rebuilding of an elementary school in Sichuan province in China devastated by the 2008 earthquake.
The Freudenberg Foundation is the largest Partner of the Freudenberg Group. In keeping with its statutes, earnings from the Foundation are used to promote science and education, and to strengthen peaceful coexistence in society. The work of the Foundation focuses on children and young people. All projects seek to integrate these groups in society.
The Freudenberg Group has signed the United Nations Global Compact in January. It is a voluntary corporate responsibility initiative which currently has over 10,000 participants – including 7,000 businesses from more than 140 countries – who commit to aligning their operations to values and sustainability. The corporate commitment, signed by the CEO of the relevant company, is addressed to the United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. The Freudenberg Group is now listed as Global Compact participant.
“Freudenberg has always aligned itself in accordance with values and sustainability. We’re signing the Global Compact, because it’s important to communicate our conduct towards our customers, neighbors, potential colleagues and institutions,” explains Dr. Mohsen Sohi, Speaker of the Freudenberg Group’s Board of Management.
The principles underlying the Global Compact are also anchored in the Freudenberg Group’s Guiding Principles. There are a total of ten principles in the four fields of Human Rights, Labor, Environment and Anti-Corruption. The 320 senior managers who took part in the 2011 DIALOG event discussed these issues in great depth.
