The problems caused by toner dust and fine dust from laser printers, faxes and copiers have been well-known for some time. A number of international studies have confirmed emissions of very fine particles from laser printers and copiers. In Germany, Giessen University was commissioned in 2005 by the Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) to conduct a pilot study on the effects of laser printers and copiers on indoor air quality. The final report, published at the beginning of 2008, indicates that a significant increase in very fine particle concentrations was observed during the operation of office equipment using toners. According to the study, the increase in concentration levels "must be considered unacceptable from the hygiene or even health point of view." On the basis of the information now available, the BfR considers that precautions are already called for to prevent health damage.

The micronAir® office fine dust filter is the only printer filter with certification by the TÜV technical inspection authority and has the highest fine dust and ultrafine dust filtration efficiency of any printer filter. The micronAir® office fine dust filter can drastically reduce emissions from laser printers and copiers and significantly lower concentration levels. With a proven filtration efficiency of up to 94 %, even for extremely small breathable particles between 100 nanometers and 2.0 micrometers, the micronAir® office printer filter offers effective protection against even the smallest particles, irrespective of the chemical composition of the fine dust emitted. micronAir® office fine dust filters feature four filtration effects: the gravity, diffusion, electrostatic and "sieve" effects.
The three models available, micronAir® office 100, 80 and 70, are suitable for most types of printers. They are easy to install and are simply fitted over the ventilation grid of the printer or copier. The filter does not impair the performance of the equipment. Filters should be replaced every 12 months or after printing 70,000 pages and can be disposed of as normal household waste. They consist of environmentally neutral nonwovens that can be fully recycled.
